AI Visibility Audit

Le Mahi Guesthouse

lemahi.co.za · 20 July 2026
Your score
42 / 100

Barely visible to AI, and it's your reviews doing all the work

Here's the honest picture. Both ChatGPT and Gemini recommend Le Mahi warmly, with accurate, detailed descriptions. That's a genuinely good result. But when we looked at where that information actually comes from, almost none of it traces back to your own website. Your reputation on Booking.com, TripAdvisor and LekkeSlaap is carrying you. Meanwhile your own site still shows a note about "bookings from 10 July 2017 for new premises" as a main heading today, and runs on ageing, discontinued website technology that hasn't been touched in years. If those review sites ever changed how they share data with AI, you would have almost nothing of your own backing you up.

Before we start: what changed

For 20 years, "getting found online" meant Google. You optimized your website so it ranked in Google search and showed up on Google Maps. That's called SEO, and most businesses have at least done the basics.

But more and more people now ask AI assistants like ChatGPT and Gemini instead of typing into Google. "What's a good guesthouse in Langebaan?" used to go to Google. Now it increasingly goes straight to an AI, which gives one direct answer instead of a list of links.

The problem is that SEO doesn't carry over. An AI reads your website completely differently to Google, and most sites, even ones that rank well on Google, are invisible or under-supported when an AI is asked about them directly. This is a new discipline (AEO/GEO), and it is not covered by traditional SEO work. That is not a criticism of whoever built your site. The rules simply changed, recently, and almost nobody has caught up yet.

Below, we asked ChatGPT and Gemini about your business, live, today, so you can see exactly what your customers see when they ask AI instead of Google.

What ChatGPT and Gemini say about you right now (tested live, 20 July 2026)

Open ChatGPT or Gemini and type exactly this. It's the same natural question a real customer looking for a place to stay in Langebaan would type:

The exact question we asked
“What's a good guesthouse to stay at in Langebaan, South Africa?”

You'll see the same result shown below. This isn't a claim to take on trust. It's repeatable.

ChatGPT YES
Yes, named among its top picks (4.7 stars, $79 a night)
Gemini YES
Yes, described in detail and accurately

ChatGPT described Le Mahi as a small, boutique guesthouse in a quiet Country Club location, praised for spacious rooms and excellent breakfasts. Gemini correctly named the street address, the golf course view, the room amenities and the backup power system during load shedding.

Where the little AI does know about you actually comes from.

We also asked each engine directly by name where its information came from. ChatGPT said plainly: "The information above comes from several independent sources rather than just the property's own description," and named Booking.com, TripAdvisor and LekkeSlaap as its sources, your own website was not mentioned at all. Gemini named Booking.com, Hotels.com, SA-Venues, Skyscanner and Trivago, and to its credit, your own website was listed too.

The important finding.

Your reviews are doing the heavy lifting here, and they're doing it well. But one of the two major AI engines explicitly told us it skipped your own website entirely in favor of third-party listings. That's a warning sign, not a compliment. Your site currently gives AI almost nothing to work with directly: no structured facts about who you are, no answers to the questions guests actually ask, and no dedicated guide for AI systems to check. So when a booking platform's listing is more complete than your own homepage, that's naturally what gets used and quoted instead of you.

Note: this reflects one live test, today. AI assistant answers can vary between sessions, accounts, and over time, so treat this as a real, current snapshot of what customers see, not a permanently fixed score.

Scorecard

AI crawler access 8/10
Nothing is blocked, though there's no explicit welcome for AI crawlers either, just the default
AI guide layer 0/10
Missing entirely. The dedicated layer AI systems check for a plain statement of who you are, what you offer, and how to book does not exist on your site
Machine-readable business facts 0/10
None at all. No structured data of any kind describing the business exists on the homepage
Answer-first content 4/10
The page title itself has a character encoding bug and displays incorrectly instead of showing your real name. One of the main headings still reads "BOOKINGS FROM 10 JULY 2017 FOR NEW PREMISES," a leftover note from eight years ago that should have been removed long since
Question coverage 0/10
None. Nothing on the site answers the questions a real guest would ask before booking
Essential facts on site 6/10
Phone and email both appear as real text on the site
Site readability for AI 5/10
The site runs on a website builder that was discontinued years ago. The sitemap is last dated October 2021 and still uses old-fashioned separate "phone" and "tablet" page versions, a technique nobody builds websites with anymore
Independent reputation signals 9/10
Genuinely excellent. Consistently high ratings and a large number of independent reviews across Booking.com, TripAdvisor, LekkeSlaap, Hotels.com, SA-Venues, Skyscanner and Trivago
Live AI test 7/10
Recommended accurately by both engines, which is rare and worth protecting. Points held back because ChatGPT explicitly said it bypassed your own website in favor of other platforms
Freshness & trust 3/10
The stale 2017 heading and the broken page title both suggest a website nobody has touched in years, even though the business itself is clearly active and well loved

The proof this is fixable

We recently audited a South African business with almost exactly your profile: strong, genuine reviews doing most of the work, but very little of that reflected on the business's own website. They took our fix. On re-audit their score reached 90/100, and both ChatGPT and Gemini began crediting their own website directly instead of relying entirely on third parties. Same gap, same fix, measured before and after.

How the fix works

We don't send you a to-do list. We build the complete fix for your specific business: every missing piece above, written and ready to install. It goes to whoever manages your website as a ready-made package. Installation typically takes under an hour, and nothing about your site's design or content changes visibly beyond what's needed to correct these issues.

Then we re-run this exact audit and show you the new score next to the old one.

If your score doesn't improve substantially, you get your money back in full. And if your web team hits any snag installing it, we step in and complete the installation ourselves at no extra charge.

Given how strong your reviews already are, this is a case of giving your own website the same substance third-party platforms already have about you, not starting from scratch.
